In this project we played with speculative design, the prompt of the project was “design for another world”. The course ended with a show at the Nordic House where projects were displayed. Þórunn decided to play with the future and create a community deeply affected by global warming. In this new community, people live in completely closed spaces where people have to use new ways to grow food and harvest energy and water.
Global warming has taken over our planet. We can not go out. Scientists have made it clear that global warming has changed our quality of life. The air is polluted and our soil has lost its nutrition. We have created a community where you don’t need to go out.
Your food is grown indoors with a hydroponic system. Your family will always have enough food since hydroponics make foos grow 50% faster than in typical farming. A vertical hydro farm takes up to 99% less space and uses 90% less water. You will have access to fish and eggs at the community house, the energy is sourced from the earth with pressure poles under the house. The water is filtered through the tilted roof and stored in a tank outside the kitchen. All traveling between houses is done in an underground system so you can walk to wherever you need safely.
